Scott Lakes Property Company presents the Upper Scott Lake Retreat, the first home in our vacation rental line-up. This six-bedroom home was upgraded in 2018 with one additional bedroom and another bathroom on the second floor, plus renovations to the main-floor bathroom. The home retains its original and carefully cultivated comforts in other areas of the house, including large rooms and unique spaces — note the cozy kid's bedrooms — thoughtfully designed for balance and peace of mind.

The Upper Scott Lake Retreat is a 16-person, three-season home set on two private acres of lake-front property. The land includes tall trees that shelter the yard and windows from roads and neighbors, as well as a sweeping green lawn that leads right up to the edge of the lake with our large beach and private dock.

This home is decorated in a cozy country-charm style with homemade quilts and antique dressers. The dining room can seat up to ten guests around the table, with stools for another six at either the breakfast counter or kitchen island. The bright kitchen is fully equipped with dining ware, cookware, and modern appliances large and small. On the lower level, a large recreation room features a pool table and foosball table, and a selection of books and videos are available for those inevitable rainy days. A large portion of the rec room area holds two leather sofas complete with a few ottomans and a large (55") flat-screen TV connected to satellite service and a DVD player.

Sleeping arrangements: Six bedrooms with 11 total beds. One of the six private bedrooms downstairs features a queen-sized bed. Three bedrooms feature king beds: one downstairs, and two upstairs. One bedroom on the second floor includes two sets of twin beds (four total beds): one set is bunked, and the other is not. The final upstairs bedroom includes three beds: one queen, and another set of [twin] bunk beds.

THIS HOME SLEEPS 16 MAX GUESTS: TOTAL INCLUDES 14 MAX ADULTS (ALL AGES COUNT)*

Unique Features

The Upper Scott Lake Retreat makes the most of its lakeside acres with a private beach and boat dock, plus a sunny deck populated by lounge chairs looking out over the gleaming lake. The level lawn is broken up by a bonfire pit surrounded by chairs, perfect for roasting marshmallows or telling ghost stories under the starry sky.

If the weather turns unpleasant, guests can still enjoy the lake breeze from a screened-in porch attached to the main house. The porch has a great view of the backyard and the water, making it perfect for watching the swans glide along the shore. If getting out on the water is your thing, the canoe is always ready for paddling adventures. Kayaks are also available by reservation for rental by the day or week, for a nominal fee.

Things To Do

Upper Scott Lake is a tranquil, 99-acre inland lake located in Lee Township, MI, and is a popular spot for fishing, swimming, and water sports. The home is one of just a few privately owned homes on this body of water, giving it a small-town, neighborly feel. The home is open nearly year-round (closed from early January until early April), and the lake is a delight in all seasons. Swimming and picnics in summer, spectacular autumn colors, and even lovely spring wildflowers allow guests to experience the best of nature in this peaceful corner of rural southwest Michigan.

The cottage is just a 15-minute drive from rural attractions such as Crane’s Orchards and Dutch Farms, where visitors can enjoy fruit picking and delicious fresh-made pies and preserves. On the way, guests can stop by the Fenn Valley Winery for a tour and tasting, or browse several local antique stores. Other unique Lee Township-area experiences include dune rides and a collection of public beaches, art galleries, canoeing or kayaking on an interconnected system of lakes and rivers, or just exploring the surrounding towns of Allegan, South Haven, Saugatuck, or Douglas.

Reviews

Outstanding!! Reviewed 5 Jul 2018. This was by far the best vacation rental I have ever experienced. Very clean and relaxing, could not ask for any better if you are looking for a summer vacation.
Beautiful! Reviewed 25 Jun 2018. I had a joint bachelor/bachelorette party weekend at this lovely home. The house accommodated six couples wonderfully but would also be an excellent home to host multiple families. Beautifully furnished home, decorated tastefully. The view of the lake is exquisite and can be seen from inside the home. The yard has a neat fire pit with a lot of seating and so much land to host a fun backyard party! We visited four wineries, all about 20 minutes from the home. We will definitely be back to visit again, soon!
Peace and quiet! Reviewed 21 Sep 2017. We had a wonderful time at your lake house. The landscaping is amazing, the view of the lake incredible — loved the swans. Enjoyed the fire pit and the side porch for games and breakfast. We were able to relax and communicate with nature and each other. Peaceful. The only bad thing was the well water smell is very bad and needs additive.
Beautiful view of the lake. Reviewed 20 Aug 2017. Our family of 8 adults had a great time here in July. The view from the deck is terrific. The backyard is so spacious – lots of opportunities for games. Appreciated the use of the canoe. Enjoyed the fire pit, but getting the logs to burn was very challenging since they were not very dry. Nicely equipped kitchen. Big enough dining table for all of us to easily fit. Unfortunately, there is no way to relax in the dining area while someone is preparing a meal. A few adjustments could be made, such as removing that bookcase to allow a couple of easy chairs or a love seat. Then you could keep someone company while they are cooking. Making this point because those dining chairs have definitely seen better days. We were concerned that there were only 2 bathrooms with 8 adults to share them, but it worked out better than we thought it would. Ample supply of towels and bed linens. One consistent problem was the router and getting internet service. Pool table was fun, but it is not positioned well – too close to walls – to make shots. Parking lot is awkward. Supposed to keep the cars behind the logs, but hard to see when you do this and hard to fit more than 2 cars. Flag by the highway is hard to spot. It’s in bad shape and hidden by brush. But it is nice to be between South Haven and Saugatuck.
Wonderful Lake Home! Reviewed 20 Jun 2017. I booked this home as in lieu Christmas gift for my three sons and their wives and my two grandchildren. This was our first time vacationing as a family and it was wonderful. The home is spacious and very clean. Each family had their own bedroom and the rest of the house was big enough for everyone to "spread out" when they wanted alone time. My grandson, who is seven, caught his first fish off the dock and was so excited! One of my sons brought his jet ski and everyone had a great time flying around the lake. The weather was in the high 80s every day we were there and the time we spent as a family was precious. The lawn is very large and great for bocce ball and can jam, which everyone played daily. What a wonderful place to stay!
Great rental, lake not good for swimming. Reviewed 14 Apr 2017. The property and home were great and would be given 5 stars except for the lake, which is not within the owner's control. If you're happy staying on land or boating and don't care about swimming, you'll love it. Our favorite things were the fantastic lawn, use of the canoe and fire pit, and the serene setting. The kids caught a bunch of fish off the dock, too. It's super peaceful at night and the sunset is beautiful. Though if you are big swimmers like my family is, it would be best to choose a different lake. (It might be okay for very little kids who don't venture far from the shore where it's clear for 15-20 ft out.) The lake is very weedy, almost to the surface, and nearly impossible to swim in. Lake Michigan is convenient enough and we drove there several days also as previously planned. It's been two years since we were there so these next couple of things might be taken care of - one of the twin beds upstairs was very uncomfortable and the downstairs bedroom was not adequately air conditioned (though we made a call, and someone brought a fan to us quickly). Loved having use of washer and dryer! Overall it was a very good stay and I would recommend.
The ultimate in relaxation! Reviewed 26 Sep 2016. I rented Upper Scott Lake Retreat for an "Old Friends Reunion" — five couples from high school 50 years ago. This was our 15th year meeting. We are now spread out across four states, but we meet every year. This was the best rental we have ever had. Great fishing and just all-around comfort for all. Nice area for sight-seeing and many orchards. Just tons of fun!!

About the Owner/Manager

We love helping people find the perfect vacation rental for their needs, and we have been managing this growing group of homes in Southwest Michigan since 2011. As admirers of Michigan's abundant natural beauty, we hope that the folks who stay in our homes come to appreciate the area as much as we do.

By a stroke of luck, the owners discovered their first gorgeous property on Upper Scott Lake in Lee Township over 18 years ago. They began renting out the cottage because they sought to share the wonderful experiences their family has enjoyed through the years. We have added 13 more properties over the past 13 years, and we truly enjoy offering our guests a simple countryside alternative to busy city life.

Our homes and guests benefit from the excellent care that one of our Local House Managers, Nicole, provides. Her direct contact information is provided to guests before arrival and is posted within our homes.
