Our cottage is a cozy vacation home near Lake Michigan. The cottage features a wrap around deck that looks out from between the trees on three sides. The deck is furnished with outdoor table and lounge sets, perfect for dining al-fresco, reading a book beneath the leaves, or napping to the sound of the waves. Our fire pit in the back yard is ideal for family gatherings, roasting hotdogs and marshmallow over am open fire. One of the most special things about our cottage is the beautiful “quiet” you can experience. Far from the hustle of city life you can immerse yourself in the wonderful quiet of the woods and lake. Truely a relaxing experience you don’t find often.

Unique Features

Our cottage in Idlewild (that's what our little settlement of cottages is called) has been our family’s getaway for years and has always delivered that true “away from it all” feeling as soon as you drive into the area. However, it is only a short drive to conveniences such as banks and grocery stores, as well as all of the attractions of downtown Muskegon and a short drive (20 minutes) to Michigan Adventure theme park.

Our cottage is one of 11 picturesque residences in this area along the Lake Michigan Shore. Most are privately owned so solitude is a key feature .

Things To Do

The western Lake Michigan shoreline is a beautiful backdrop for a family vacation, with an unmatched natural beauty that inspires photographers and casual sight-seers alike. Take a scenic drive along the winding roads and stop at a vantage point for a picnic or take a walk on the many wooded trails in the area. In the early morning and evening you'll surely see deer wandering along our property.

Lake Michigan itself is large and clear, great for swimming, fishing and boating. Close by Pere Marquette beach is the best for swimming and sunning. As an all-sports lake, it attracts a following of adventurous tourists, from wind-surfers and kite-boarders to sailors and water-tubers. It is also an excellent place to hire a charter boat and cast a line into the depths. In Muskegon’s downtown area, visitors will find plenty to amuse, including the USS Silversides Submarine Museum, the Muskegon Museum of Art, Michigan Adventure Water/Amusement Park, parks and playgrounds, restaurants and theater. You’ll love the lakefront marinas and boardwalks, with the Lakeshore Bike Trail offering miles of scenic biking. The Aquastar sunset cruise is also a popular attraction.

Visitors can hike the dunes at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park or view the lighthouse at Pere Marquette Park. Plan ahead to make sure your trip coincides with a local festivals and Art Fairs at Heritage Landing!

Reviews

Rustic, Relaxing, Peaceful, and Clean. David D.
Absolutely amazing! Kids loved it! Dog was in her glory! The views and wild life was what our family needed for our special weekend in Muskegon, steps away from my favorite place, Lake Michigan!! My family will be back!! Andrea & David
Perfect location for the perfect vacation with friends. Short distance to beautiful lake Michigan. Clean house with many amenities. Feel like another home to us. Will definitely come back to this gem. Nam V
My family and I had an awesome time at this wonderful, secluded cottage. We were looking for a place to unwind and have an outdoorsy type of vacation. This property delivered. The cottage is very spacious, yet extremely cozy. My 12-year-old daughter loved sleeping up in the loft and having her own bathroom. There is a newer deck in front that was perfect for a peaceful morning cup of coffee. The back patio was great for grilling out and playing paddleball. We were able to bring our two dogs, which was a huge bonus, and there was plenty of wildlife (deer, turkeys, squirrels) to see on our morning walks. We all loved the private beach and the view of the lake from atop the dune. For excursions, we walked the trails at Muskegon State Park and even tried our hand at kayaking on the Muskegon River. The town of Muskegon has its own charm including a really good farmers market. I definitely recommend going to The Cheese Lady for some fantastic cheese and variety of Olive Oils and Vinegars. The owners are very nice and easy to deal with and it’s easy to see that they take pride in their family-owned cottage. We look forward to vacationing here again someday. Bryan D
Our Family has been staying at this quiet, woodsy, cottage for the past 10 plus years. It's a cottage that offers the best of Lk. Michigan beaches and a great place for family gatherings. Your choice of quiet reading on the deck or a walk on the beach. Shopping is not far, for the restless. There are always festivals or celebrations going on or in one of the neighboring towns. I can't say enough about this place. We have so many memories of great meals, games we played on the table in the dining room, or fabulous bon fires on the beach. We have even had great rain days doing nothing. We will be back for another ten years. No problem! Patsy K
I would recommend this property as the beach is breathtaking and private!! The pictures of the property are accurate and it was very clean and well stocked. Thank you for letting our dogs come along. Judy P
I was very impressed with the house. It was comfortable, clean and extremely well stocked. The owner has taken excellent care of the property. I stayed two weeks, and it began to feel like home. The back porch is nice and cool in the woods, and access to the beach is pretty easy. It was very relaxing. The owner was easy to reach whenever a question came up. I enjoyed my stay very much and hope to be back. Lizabeth M
The house is very nice and well stocked. There's plenty of space for 2 family's. Lots of out door seating to have visitors as well. The deck is very nice as well. You can't watch the kids from the house because it's on a hill and in the woods but I like being on the beach so it's not an issue. Having all the bath towels and bed sheets as well as a washer and dry meant we didn't have to pack much either. The public beach is just up the street if you like as well. I like to run and there's a nice 1.6 mile loop that goes through the woods and on the beach. Very nice. Carol who manages the place is very nice and easy to deal with. We had a great stay and plan on going back next year. Kyle D
Western Lake Michigan Shoreline is one of the best kept secrets . Its natural beauty is unmatched . Yet there is much to do. Festivals and Art fairs aplenty. Museums downtown, Waterpark /Amusement Park within a 20 minute drive. It's also a Charter fishing, windsurfing, and kiteboarders paradise. The Pier Marquette pier with its boardwalk, bike path and miles of beach is within minutes of our cottage.

About the Owner/Manager

My name is Corene, I manage the rental of 2 family cottages in Muskegon. Our family grew up in the Muskegon area. But, as families grow up, they often move apart and our cottage has become a regular family meeting place in the summer and an important part of our family heritage. Since we return to the cottage every year, we are constantly working to keep it clean and comfortable. We enjoy sharing this special place and its unique setting with others.

Come and see why we think it's so special.
