A few steps from the shores of Intermediate Lake, The Dragonfly Cottage welcomes you with the rustic warmth of a classic 1960s lakefront retreat. Think knotty‑pine walls, exposed beams and tall windows that frame sparkling water views. A sprawling great room with comfortable sofas, a wood‑burning fireplace and a huge farmhouse table invites everyone to gather together after a day on the water. Above, an open loft with a daybed and trundle – complete with a vintage pinball machine – adds a playful touch that delights guests of all ages.

This five‑bedroom, two‑bathroom cottage comfortably sleeps a crowd without feeling crowded. On the main level you’ll find a lakeside king bedroom and two cozy rooms with full beds, while upstairs there’s another king bedroom and a spacious bunk‑style room with two queen beds. With mini‑split air conditioning, fast Wi‑Fi, a 55" Smart TV and a fully equipped kitchen (coffee bar included), the home blends northern Michigan character with modern comforts. Thoughtful extras like a Pack ‘n Play, games, puzzles and children’s books make it easy for families to settle right in.

Outside is where The Dragonfly really spreads its wings. Just 25 steps from the door, a private sandy beach with shallow entry is ideal for swimming and for little ones to splash. A 90‑foot dock extends into deeper water; kayaks, a canoe and a paddleboat are all included, so you can explore the Chain of Lakes at your own pace. Evenings are for crackling campfires, yard games, grilling under string lights and listening for loons. Book direct with us at RentMichiganCabins.com and enjoy a timeless Up North experience without the extra fees.

Unique Features

The Dragonfly Cottage combines vintage character with amenities you rarely find at lake rentals. Built in 1964, it still has its original charm, from the squeak of old wooden stairs to the knotty‑pine interior, but everything guests need for a carefree vacation is thoughtfully provided. Included in your stay are kayaks, a canoe, a paddleboat and a 90‑foot dock with space to tie up your own boat. Dog crates, bowls, beds and toys ensure four‑legged family members feel as welcome as everyone else, and there’s even a Star Wars pinball machine in the loft for nostalgic fun.

The cottage’s setting is equally special. A rare stretch of private sandy beach – usable all summer – means you won’t be lugging gear down long stairs or across rocky shorelines. Spacious lakeview decks and a handcrafted 12‑seat dining table encourage big family meals, while hammocks and a lakeside fire pit provide space for quiet moments. With firewood provided year‑round, cornhole and ladder ball ready to go and yard lights for evening ambiance, there’s truly nothing you need to bring except your sense of adventure. Skip the service fees by booking direct and see why so many guests return year after year.

Things To Do

Your vacation begins right at the water’s edge. Launch the canoe or paddle one of the provided kayaks across Intermediate Lake, where calm mornings are perfect for fishing, spotting loons and watching mist rise off the glassy surface. Kids love the shallow sandy swim area, and the 90‑foot dock is great for jumping off, sipping coffee at sunrise or tying up a rental boat delivered straight to you. When afternoon breezes pick up, grab the paddleboat for an easy cruise, then wind down with yard games before a sunset campfire.

When it’s time to explore beyond the beach, you’ll find plenty within a short drive. The village of Central Lake is minutes away for ice cream, playgrounds and groceries, while Bellaire – just 10 minutes south – is home to the famous Short’s Brewing Company and boutique shopping. Torch Lake’s turquoise waters and the fairways of Shanty Creek are about 15 minutes away, and day‑trip destinations like Charlevoix (30 minutes), Traverse City (45 minutes) and the dramatic dunes at Sleeping Bear (about an hour) make easy excursions.

The wider Chain of Lakes region is a playground for boaters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. Bring or rent a boat to explore Torch Lake’s sandbar, book a tee time at a championship course or bike the quiet country roads that weave past orchards and vineyards. Wine and cider lovers can follow tasting trails through nearby vineyards, while families will appreciate farm stands, local markets and U‑pick berries in season. However you spend your days, you’ll love coming home to the cottage’s peaceful lakefront setting.

About the Owner/Manager

Hello from your hosts! We are a local family who grew up on northern Michigan lakes and fell in love with this cottage at first sight. As the third stewards of The Dragonfly, we’ve worked hard to preserve its vintage feel while adding the comforts our own family appreciates when we travel. When we’re not busy wrangling kids and dogs, we’re usually out on the water or tinkering with the old pinball machine. We believe vacations should be simple and memorable, with more time spent making memories than checking boxes.

Because we live nearby, we’re easy to reach if you need anything during your stay, but we’ll always respect your privacy. We also believe in the power of booking direct – skip the third‑party fees and contact us through RentMichiganCabins.com for the best rates and personal service. Whether you’re returning to The Dragonfly year after year or visiting for the first time, we can’t wait to share this special place with you.
