Our Northern Michigan Acorn Cottage is lakefront on sandy bottom, crystal clear, all sports Paradise Lake. You can launch your own boat at the public ramp nearby and then dock it on your own private pier. You can also rent our 27-foot pontoon boat (weekly rate). Either way, you’ll enjoy excellent fishing on this beautiful lake in Michigan’s northern woods. There are two decks for relaxing, including one right on the shore of the lake with spectacular views. There is plenty of space to park your boat trailer and there is also a garage.

The quaint pet-friendly cottage in the town of Carp Lake has two bedrooms with a futon in the living room that will sleep up to six people. This classic half-log cabin near Mackinaw City welcomes you with a cute screened-in porch and wicker chairs creating the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee and watch the abundant wildlife. We planted a garden filled with flowers that attract hummingbirds and butterflies.The pine paneling and huge stone faced, gas fireplace in the living room create an inviting space to rest after a busy day of outdoor recreation. Along with satellite-connected TV, we also have free WIFI.

The kitchenette has a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, toaster, coffeemaker, silverware, dishware, and cookware. The kitchen breakfast bar seats two and there is a fold-out table in the dining room that will seat up to six persons. TV trays on the porch, a picnic table, and a gas grill for a special cookout gives you lots of cooking/dining options. You’ll also have use of the washer/dryer in the garage.

Unique Features

All-sports,1,900-acre Paradise Lake has good swimming and great angling for Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Pumpkinseed Sunfish, Rock Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, and of course, Walleye. Fish from the pier/dock or get out on the lake in your own boat or rent our Pontoon boat. You can even motor over to a restaurant on the lake for breakfast, lunch or dinner. A public boat launch is nearby, and a local marina has a bait shop where you can purchase everything you need to fish the lake in style.

There are gorgeous lake views from most windows in the cottage. You have your own private section of lakeshore, a pier/dock, an awesome lakefront deck with lounge chairs, and a firepit with chairs/picnic table. Bring your favorite lawn games and have a spirited family competition while you have a cookout BBQ on the grill. What a great place to relax and feel the beauty of nature all around you - including hummingbirds and butterflies - at this “Tip of the Mitt” cabin. Then fall asleep to the call of loons on the lake at night!

Things To Do

You are only a 5-minute drive to Mackinac Island Ferries and the Upper Michigan Peninsula where you can explore museums, lighthouses, and the historical Fort Michilimackinac. If you want to stay closer to home, there are tennis courts located in the public park right across the street. Bring your golf clubs because you can golf nearby at the Wilderness Golf Course.

Take a hike at the Wilderness State Park just a few miles away. The state park has 26-miles of sugar sand Lake Michigan shoreline and numerous hiking trails. Bird watch at the Stoney Point Nature Preserves where a pair a Bald Eagles have a nesting site. There is so much natural beauty to explore with three nature preserves along the shores of Paradise Lake. After an exciting day of sightseeing, relax on the lakefront deck with your favorite beverage and watch the sunset on the lake. Amazing!

About the Owner/Manager

We purchased this cottage in 2005. When we first looked at the cottage with a realtor, I thought I saw something under one of the bedroom mattresses. Upon closer inspection, I found ten neat little rows of acorns. Then I opened a dresser drawer and it was filled with more acorns deposited by a local chipmunk as its winter feast! You’ll find those same acorns in an airtight jar on the fireplace mantle of the Acorn Cottage. However, the chipmunks stay outside now!
