The first floor of the Nest is wheelchair/scooter accessible: ramp to the front door, fully equipped kitchen, comfortable dining area, living room with king-size pull-out daybed, cable TV, and a large bathroom with ADA-compliant fixtures and shower. The front door opens to a covered deck overlooking our spacious beach and Budd Lake.
Enjoy a variety of unpowered watercraft (kayaks, paddlewheel boats and rowboats), included in your stay. Bring their own watercraft and inflatables too. The Nest is part of a 4-cottage resort (perfect for family reunions). The Nest is modern, comfortable and completely furnished. The covered deck is just feet from the beach, making it possible for you to sip your morning coffee and watch the eagles search for their fish breakfasts or just watch the waves roll in. If you're bringing children, they can play in the sand under your watchful eye from the comfort of your picnic table. Once you settle into your home away from home, you might not want to leave.
Sleeping arrangement: On the second story are two comfortable bedrooms with queen-size beds in each. Each upstairs bedroom has its own private full bath with oversize shower, creating two mini suites, making this cottage perfect for two couples with children.
You also have access to our 70-foot wide floating dock, which is an excellent spot for fishing, sunning and just plain relaxing in a beach chair. Our swimming area is enclosed by this "C"-shaped dock, which provides a protected swimming space for the youngsters in your group. It's even a good place to learn to kayak.
When it comes to location, Snug Haven is unique: Surrounded by little towns with unique shops, and dozens of lakes and several streams. "Twenty lakes in twenty minutes" is our motto. Take a day trip in either direction - about 2 hours to Lake Michigan to the west (sunset coast), or Lake Huron to the east (sunrise coast). It's a similar distance to other Michigan attractions to the north: Traverse City and Leelanau wineries; arts/crafts events in Charlevoix, Harbor Springs, Petosky, and other waterside towns; The Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac City; Mackinac Island; and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Enjoy all kinds of unique Michigan attractions but return to the comfort, security and low-key relaxation offered at Snug Haven.
Bring the fishing poles because Budd Lake is teeming with a varieties of fish, including musky. The Nest sits directly on the main beach. Meet other guests at one of the beach fire-pits that are lit nearly every nice evening during the summer. Just make yourself at home while visiting our home. Bring a guitar, if you are so inclined.
If sight-seeing is your thing, there are lots of area activities. Though the deck is the prefect place to prepare dinner, you might want to eat out. Mt. Pleasant is 30 minutes south of us; at last count there were over 100 places to eat there. For example, Mountain Town Station has steaks and chops served with a variety of home-brewed beers. Clare is home to the now world-famous Cops & Doughnuts Bakery. Enjoy one of their famous fritters and get your photo taken in the "jail." You might also visit an Amish farm in Clare or search out an Amish bakery; watch fireworks in July; explore the Clare County Fair; visit the world-famous Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac Island; go tubing and canoeing; play miniature golf; ride go-karts; and enjoy casino gambling at Soaring Eagle Casino. Whatever you decide to do to fill you day, your Nest will be waiting for you when you return.

The owners--Donn, Nancy and Alice--opened Snug Haven in 1995. Since then all of the original cabins have been replaced by new vacation cottages. The name of the resort was changed from Nelson's Resort to Snug Haven. Donn and Nancy are retired academics and Alice is retired from Dow Chemical. Donn is a semi-retired musician who can be persuaded now and then to bring a guitar down to the fire pit for some campfire sing-a-longs.
Sometimes more IS better. Like more cottages available in one location, especially if you’re planning to vacation with friends and family. Snug Haven Lakeside Resort is the perfect getaway whether you need one cottage or four. We’re located on beautiful all-sports Budd Lake in Harrison Michigan (swimming, boating, and fishing for everything from panfish to sport fish to walleye to muskies). All of our cottages share our 300-foot sandy beach, the 70-foot C-shaped floating dock that can be used for fishing and sunbathing while providing a protected swimming area for youngsters, two fire pits, and a variety of unpowered watercraft (kayaks, paddlewheel boats, and fishing boats). Every cottage has a gas grill and at least one picnic table; three have covered decks so you can grill in the rain (if, heaven forbid, it happens to rain while you’re here). And every cottage is fully equipped and ready to move in: beds are made, kitchen is modern and well-stocked with cookware and serving dishes, and the living areas are comfortable. Most of the furniture is Amish-built: rustic, sturdy, and beautiful at the same time. Two cottages have laundry facilities and three have gas fireplaces. On top of all that, we are pet-friendly.
