In 2023 we handcrafted Ironwood Lodge as our dream Northern Michigan escape. Tucked on a wooded hillside just minutes from downtown Harbor Springs and Petoskey, our 2,340‑square‑foot log cabin blends the feel of a backwoods retreat with the conveniences of a resort town. French doors open from the great room onto a wrap‑around deck overlooking 30‑foot pines, and a floor‑to‑ceiling stone fireplace invites cozy evenings after a day on the slopes or beach.
Inside, the open‑concept main level features a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances, island seating and dining table for the whole family. Two bedrooms on this floor include a queen suite and a family room with a queen bed plus built‑in bunk beds, sharing a full bath. Upstairs, the loft holds a king bed, desk workspace and a full en‑suite bath, while the lower level offers a game room with an HDTV, shuffleboard, retro arcade, extra fridge, and cozy built‑in bunks with a half bath.
We designed Ironwood Lodge to comfortably sleep up to twelve guests across four bedrooms and 2½ baths. Wi‑Fi keeps you connected, and central heat and air conditioning ensure year‑round comfort. Outdoors you'll find a private firepit with Adirondack chairs and a ski‑lift bench, plus space for yard games. Next door is Happy Days & Nights Winery, and in winter you’re just five minutes from Nub’s Nob and The Highlands ski resorts.
Constructed in 2023 using individually hewn logs and reclaimed timber, Ironwood Lodge captures the warmth of traditional log construction with modern comforts. The wrap‑around deck and multiple sets of French doors blur the line between indoors and outdoors, while a soaring stone fireplace anchors the living area. The kitchen boasts stainless appliances—fridge, electric oven, dishwasher, microwave, crock pot, griddle and more—plus a coffee station stocked with beans and tea.
Unique touches abound: the loft reading nook overlooks the living room; the lower‑level game room includes a vintage shuffleboard table, retro arcade and Wii system. Outside, the illuminated firepit area features a one‑of‑a‑kind ski‑lift chair reclaimed from a local resort, perfect for evening storytelling. Being next door to the family‑run Happy Days & Nights Winery means you can walk over for a tasting then stroll home under the stars.
At the cabin, kids and adults alike can play shuffleboard, try their skills on the retro arcade, or curl up in the loft with a book. The lower level also has a Wii system for family tournaments, and our game cupboard is stocked with puzzles and board games. Outside, roast s’mores over the firepit or watch the stars while relaxing in the ski‑lift chair.
Winter visitors will love our location five minutes from Nub’s Nob and The Highlands ski areas, offering downhill runs, tubing parks and cross‑country trails. Snowshoe the nearby groomed trails or take an evening horse‑drawn sleigh ride. When the snow melts, explore miles of hiking and mountain biking trails through the Harbor Springs area, book a tee time at world‑class golf courses or rent kayaks to paddle along Little Traverse Bay.
Downtown Harbor Springs and Petoskey are each just a ten‑minute drive. Spend an afternoon strolling the waterfront marinas, browsing boutiques and galleries, and sampling fudge or fresh‑caught whitefish at local restaurants. Follow the famed Tunnel of Trees scenic drive to Good Hart for homemade pies, or plan a day on the sandy beaches of Petoskey State Park.
For even more adventure, take a day trip 30 minutes north to Mackinaw City to catch a ferry to Mackinac Island or head south to the charming town of Charlevoix. Tour local wineries and breweries, explore the area’s lighthouses, or simply relax on the deck and listen to the wind in the pines.

I'm Jim Meloche, the owner and host of Northern Michigan Cabin rentals. As a lifelong Michigander, I built Ironwood Lodge to share my love of Harbor Springs and the surrounding Northwoods. I’ve been in the home building and cabin rental business for years and take pride in creating spaces where families and friends can make lasting memories. From the handcrafted log beams to the unique firepit, every detail reflects the work of local artisans and my passion for the outdoors.
Our team at Northern Michigan Cabin lives right here in Harbor Springs, so we’re happy to share insider tips on ski conditions, the best beaches and our favorite restaurants.
