The Cozy Lake Huron A-Frame Cottage looks like something out of a storybook, with its steep roof and inviting porch, all tucked away between the trees on a peaceful lot near the shore of the second-largest great lake. Inside, this scenic northern Michigan vacation rental has been newly renovated with an open-concept living space and new kitchen surfaces and appliances.

Lake Huron, as well as all of the Great Lakes have experienced rising lake levels. To protect the property, large rocks have been placed at the waterfront. There are a series of flat-topped stones arranged in "steps" that lead down to the water. Once you enter the water, you may find a small area of sand and small rocks. We are happy to report that there is now more beach, and that the beach does have some sand! The area where you enter the water will be shallow. The lake bottom is composed of small stones here, so water shoes are recommended. If you are a rock collector, you've found paradise! Beautiful rocks of all shapes and sizes abound here!

The main floor consists of the full kitchen with a breakfast counter and stools, a sitting room with plush swivel rockers, table seating for four and a large-screen TV. On the lake-facing side, the sitting room opens via sliding glass doors to a shaded porch with a view of Lake Huron. On the upper level, a slant-ceiling loft serves as the designated sleeping space, with a second walk-out balcony-level deck. NEW FOR 2022 IS WIFI INTERNET SERVICE!

Sleeping arrangements: One private bedroom on the main floor is equipped with a queen-sized bed. On the lofted upper level, two separate bedrooms harbor a full-sized bed and two twin-sized beds.

Unique Features

Located just 15 minutes by car from the town of Cheboygan, MI, this lakefront cottage is the ideal vacation spot for families or couples looking to split their time between splashing in the waves and dining in excellent local eateries. The cottage was recently featured in Traverse Magazine as an excellent A-frame destination!

The cottage belongs to an association that offers access to four nature parks. Here, visitors will find unique open-air activities such as basketball and playground equipment. The roads and paths surrounding the cabin are low-traffic and safe for walking, jogging and biking.

Things To Do

Lake Huron is the fifth-largest fresh water lake on earth, and standing on its edge it can feel more like the ocean or the edge of the world than a relatively small body of water landlocked in the Midwest.

The area has a long history as a trading and shipping route, leading to what is now more than 1,000 known shipwrecks lurking in Lake Huron’s depths. These historic underwater wreck sites are protected by the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and serve as popular destination points for recreational snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking. Visitors interested in the history of the region are encouraged to spend some time at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center. There are also a number of historic light houses, some of which are open for tourists to explore.

Lake Huron is open to motor water sports, and on calm days is often populated with sail boats, wind-surfers, water-skiers and jet-skis. If keeping your feet on dry land is more your speed, make the most of this cabin’s location by casting a line from the shore!

Reviews

This little cottage has been a perfect location for me, my daughter and three grand-daughters for the last three summers. Plenty of space, inviting beach area and rock collection, sunrise and sunset in one location, private, clean and affordable. This year the water level was higher than previous years, so we ventured out into the surrounding area a little more, going to Rogers City to a fine beach, and another trip across the Bridge. My daughter and I would both recommend this cottage. It's a beautiful location as described more elaborately in the other reviews and we have returned 3 times! Michigander, Aug. 2016
Our week at this cottage was spectacular. All was in order, very comfortable and beautiful. Our weather was typical Northern Michigan fall: sunny one minute, rainy the next. But the cottage was perfect for both. The improvements are very nice. I mention this because our Realtor showed us the place twice several years ago; just too early to make the move north. We came close! So, great job Richardsons! We love Cordwood and will love returning. Thanks for a great time! Hap, Sept. 2015
This cottage is awesome! The pictures don't do it justice. The views of Lake Huron are incredible, we sat on the deck every morning and every evening and just took the sites in. The cottage itself is great, very clean and well-kept and plenty of room for my family of 4. The water is literally steps away from the cottage and we enjoyed swimming each day. The street the cottage is on is very quiet and has little traffic, our kids were able to ride their bikes everyday with no worries. The location is nice as well, we were able to take day trips to Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island, St. Ignace, Cheboygan and Sault Ste. Marie. I would highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway. Dana, Aug. 2015
Wonderful, cozy cottage with great views of Lake Huron. You get absolutely beautiful sunrises and sunsets while also being able to see the Mackinaw Bridge. The upstairs has a balcony and you can also watch the sunrise from in bed! It is located at a great location that is close enough to the U.P. to go check out the waterfalls and beautiful scenery. Also had a first of seeing an eagle swoop down and grab a fish about ten feet off of the beach at the cottage. The lake is great for kayaking when the wake is low and there is lots to see like a ship wreck just five houses to the east at the community beach. And you cannot forget to stop by The Big Dipper for ice cream! If you want an adventures bike ride, take the ferry ride from Cheboygan to Bois Blake Island. Just be sure to bring snacks and water for the whole day because the island is a good size beautiful. Fully equipped kitchen with all you need to cook and bake including crockpot, blender, toaster, and microwave. Nice size refrigerator/freezer to store your food. Nice clean bathroom with great water pressure and plenty of towel racks. Great amount of parking space (fits four vehicles with comfort). Deck is huge and has nice size picnic table. The porch on the road side of the cottage has an area to wash off feet to prevent tracking the outdoors inside. May want to bring paper plates and plastic ware. The neighbors were very nice and had a very social dog that would occasionally visit. A definite vacation spot to come back to and can’t wait to do so! Renee, July 2015
Our family had a last-minute vacation change this summer, so we booked this cottage on the lake because the dates needed were open. This turned out to be one of the best Northern Michigan trips ever. The cottage was clean, comfortable and cozy, just like the description states. The beach was even better. We spent most of the time on the quiet beach watching the freighters pass and enjoying an evening bon fire. Cody, the neighbor dog would come visit periodically, just give him a stick and you will be friends forever. We did spend the day at Mackinac Island just up the road 25 miles or so, but other than that, we chose the serenity of Cordwood Trail. Can't wait to go back next summer!
