Lake Odessa has been a vacation destination since the 1800's, when numerous resorts and hotels dominated the town and lakefront. The activities and attractions of centuries past haven't changed, with a few new ones added to the mix. Your group will find recreation, refuge, and fun; in a friendly small town atmosphere.
Pontoon boat rental may be available (third party) for around $300/day, ask your host for details. Check out live Americana music at Bob's Barn Jamboree, just one mile away. Use the included 4 person rowboat, 2 stand up paddleboards, and/or 2 kayaks to explore the waters. Smaller watercraft can usually make it through a canal to Tupper Lake, a smaller fishing lake nearby, that has even more shoreline and canals to explore.
The Beach Cottage is a place to relax, re-group and re-connect. Stay in and play games, soak in the lakeside hot tub, and watch Netflix together. Or go boating, fishing, and swimming; then roast s'mores by the campfire. Saunter next door for a beer, some bowling, or a fantastic meal at Buddy's on the Beach. Take a short walk downtown for some antique shopping, followed by a treat at the ice cream shop. Hang out at the park with huge wooden playground on the way bac
Word has it that this is the only property on the lake which boasts a deck that actually extends over the water. And this one-of-a-kind, grandfathered-in, infinity style deck sprawls out to fill the entire backyard.
The public Beach (just steps away) features a sandy lakefront that gently slopes down to the water. A large floating dock has benches for lounging, spots for fishing, and is fun to walk on. The area contained by the floating docks provides a no-boat swimming experience for all ages. The Beach volleyball court is open to the public for impromptu games (volleyball available for you to use). Enjoy snacks from the Dairy Queen at the picnic tables on the Beach.
The Cottage has heat and air conditioning throughout, as well as plenty of windows with screens to open if desired. There are two flat screen televisions. Both have Roku, from which you can access our complimentary Netflix account for TV and movies. There is a stereo system downstairs, with amp and speakers, to which you can plug in your device.
Just 15 minutes to the north is Ionia State Recreation Area, a huge 4,500 acre playground for outdoor enthusiasts of nearly any persuasion. There's a river and lake; hiking, mountain biking, dog and horse trails; awesome bird watching; wildflowers galore; and come winter, fantastic sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The Grand River Valley trail runs right through it. It's like being up north in the UP, without the long road trip. And just five minutes east from there is the city of Ionia, offering chain restaurants and big box stores.
The dock is usually in the water April 1-Nov 1. Exact dates vary from year to year; please inquire regarding more specific projections if they could impact your stay. Watercraft, direct lake access, and the part of the deck overhanging the lake are not available when the dock has been pulled up (during the winter).

5/5 stars. Girls Trip- This place was even more beautiful and perfect than the pictures and description. The hosts went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. I would definitely love to come back again. -Samantha K, September 2021
5/5 stars. Great Location!- We wanted a quick get away before school started and this place was perfect for that. We spent most days using the paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes. We visited a few places (Grand Rapids, Grand Ledges), but basically took it easy. The house had everything we needed and the host was very kind and great with communication. -Samantha C, August 2021
5/5 stars. FANTASTIC COTTAGE- Our family stayed here because our daughter got married in Vermontville, MI. This cottage was absolutely perfect. It was an oasis in the craziness of the wedding. The cottage is adorable, spotless, spacious and truly charming. Jason has provided everything you need and then some! He is very welcoming. My grandson and I swam in Jordan Lake each day and we were able to join around the large table each evening for dinner and games. I would not hesitate one bit to book here again. (but next time have the time to use all the many lake toys) It was magical and truly wonderful stay. -Liz W, August 2021

5/5 stars. Perfect WFH getaway. We enjoyed the most relaxing weekend! Everything was incredibly clean, wonderful view, and good WiFi to take some zoom calls. Jason laid out the most thoughtfully detailed guidebook, including reviews of each restaurant in the area. The hot tub was perfect and the kitchen is well equipped with gadgets to make your own meals! Would definitely stay again. Kiersten, February 2021

I had always loved that week in Lake Odessa as a child. That time during the summer that we would look forward to for months. We would plan for weeks, and pack for days. It was less than a half an hour drive to Lake O, but it felt like another world to me there. Time slowed down, and everyone seemed to be all about summer fun. My special request every year was to be there when the fair was in town. We could ride our bikes from The Cottage to the fairgrounds, and stop by the gas station on the way for candy and soda.
A trip to the ice cream shop, a quick stop downtown at the dime store, and swimming in the lake were all fun, but the fishing... the fishing was the best part! It seemed like you could use live bait or lures, go to most any part of the lake, and always have a new experience.
And then the evening campfire with stories about the day, plans for the next, and flaming marshmallows on sticks. The smell of bug spray and suntan lotion, and then the kids upstairs and parents downstairs to sleep with the windows open and the sound of the crickets, while seeing flashing lightning bugs out the window as you drifted off to sleep.
And Lake Odessa today is pretty much the same experience. Only what I didn't know as a child, is that spring, winter, and fall offer awesome fun as well! Whether it be pickle ball, bicycling, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, walking, or skiing, there are numerous options for enjoying the outdoors year round. And when venturing out is just not your thing, taking a dip in the lakeside hot tub, or stepping next door for a dinner and perhaps bowling offer entertainment without venturing too far.
