  • On Lake Michigan with a private beach

Enjoy having access to Lake Michigan just steps away from your cabin. Plus, the sunsets are breath-taking here! The Shoreside Cottage is a relaxing and quiet place to spend time with your family and friends. The large yard leads out to sandy beach. Watch and listen to the waves lap the shore. Our cabin is close to town yet private and secluded. There are several picnic tables, a gazebo and swings on the property. From the moment you walk into the cottage, you’ll notice the rustic charm. The cottage is approximately 1,000 square feet with a large kitchen that opens up to the living room and dining area.

In the porch area, there is plenty of comfortable seating and natural light thanks to the wall of windows. Make home cooked meals in the fully equipped kitchen. The kitchen has a microwave, toaster, stove, refrigerator, oven, dishes, utensils and a coffee maker. Inside both bedrooms are queen size beds.

Unique Features

The patio with the grill is the perfect place to enjoy dining outside. We also recommend having a glass of wine and watching the beautiful sunset over Lake Michigan from the beach. At night, sit around the bonfire under the stars and roast marshmallows. This is a pet friendly property so bring along your four legged friends for the adventure.

Things To Do

Along with sunbathing, walking and swimming on your own private beach, there are plenty of activities to do in the area! There are antique shops, restaurants, and art galleries galore. The Featherstone Antique Mall is a crowd favorite. Velocity Adventures is a family owned company that offers kayaking and standup paddle boarding rentals along with tours down the Kalamazoo River. The Khnemu Studio on Fernwood Farm has beautifully crafted pottery made by talented local artisans. Kids love the hands on learning at the Forever Curious Children’s Museum.

Only a short drive away is Saugatuck. This is a popular vacation destination in MI. Here you can experience the Satugatuck Dune Rides, the Oval Beach, Butler Street (local art and boutiques), and the Tabor Hill Wine Port (large selection of wine and samples). If your looking for charters or boat tours check out the Saugatuck Wooden Boat Tour, Hoppenero Charters and the SeaSun Sailing Charters.

Reviews

We absolutely had a wonderful stay on this property. The house is quaint and comfortable, and allowed us to bring our dogs (major plus). The owners and Will were friendly and there for any questions you had. The view was by far one of the best of Lake Michigan with no obstructions- leading to first class sunsets. Close to town, but secluded to make you really relax. Will be there again! Anonymous
Right on the lake, a large and gorgeous property with a wide and ideal view of Lake Michigan. Amazing sunsets! Private path to the beach. Great fire pit- wood provided. The house is a classic cottage. Clean, comfortable. Everything worked fine. Well-equipped kitchen. If you are used to being pampered or need modern lodging, this cottage is probably not for you. We had 3 big dogs with us and they slept in the large screen porch - perfect. We will go back. Good value. Carol and Will were super nice. Charles T.
We enjoyed our stay. The cabin is perfect for a get away but close to resturants and shopping. The view is amazing and being able to have the dog along for the trip was the deal maker for us. This is a rustic house but the ammeties are sufficient for cooking in, grilling and lounging if it rains. We will be back! Gus
5 acres of beautiful green grass surrounded by trees and breathtaking views of Lake Michigan! Four houses sit on this property; the owners, the property manager, the cabin and cottage vacation rentals. All are spread out at the maximum distance between. On the property there are several picnic tables, a gazebo and swings. Both vacation rentals have their own fire pits, outdoor grills and seating area. There is one path down to the beach which is a steep wide slope. Although the path is doable going down, except where the dirt meets the sand can be a little tricky, it is a climb to get back up—making you think twice about your journey down. Adding hand rails and somewhere for your feet to land while trying not to slip would do wonders here! I do feel the property manager could give the beach a little more attention, to make it more inviting for the quest. Maybe adding chairs, a fire pit and making sure the beach stays free of debris. The cottage is charming and roomy with a large kitchen that opens up to the living and dining area surrounded by large windows that you can’t resist opening. The bedrooms are cozy, relaxing and best of all clean! No bugs, stains or smells and super clean bedding, which goes a long way with me! However, the bathroom, I feel, could have used a little more attention. I realize since this is surrounded by trees there will be some bugs, especially since we were there in the spring, so I kept this in mind when the lady bugs out numbered us. I was grateful they kept to the bathroom! There were also spider webs in the corners and the tub needs to be replaced—but keep in mind these are all my personal issues as I have a “thing” about bathrooms and my standard of cleanliness in this area. The potty and sink are perfectly fine and I am sure the bathtub for many would be as well! To say this is a dog friendly environment is an understatement! We were told right away our dog did not need to stay leash and no need to follow behind picking up her messes where needed. Sweet dog Daisy is very laid back and tolerant. The beach is also dog friendly, with lots of beach front to run and play. Sticks can be easily found to chase in the waves! Cranes Apple Orchard, 4 miles down the road, is a perfect stop for dessert! The Lyons Market is another great stop to get fresh produce for your meals. Lots of roadside antique shops. We enjoyed horseback riding in Allegan and the Dunes Ride in Saugatuck. Overall I do encourage you to stay here! Mrs. E
The cottage was great, the setting overlooking the lake was amazing. It was also nice to be able to bring our dog, it is close to Douglas and all the shops and galleries. I would recommend highly. Randall S.
The cottage reminds me of a place that we used to stay at up in Wisconsin when I was a child and Max (my 100+ lb Black Lab) and I just had a wonderful week here. The Harrington's are warm and welcoming as is Will, the caretaker and of course we can't leave out Daisy the Lab who greeted us with a tennis ball in her mouth. The cabin is comfortable and functional but if you are looking for a 5 star hotel type location with spacious modern accommodations, then this is not the place for you. Warm and welcoming, with spacious grounds, an amazing view of Lake Michigan. Anonymous
The house is a bit rough around the edges but the amazing setting, breathtaking views, lovely private beach and incredibly nice owners with their fabulous dog Daisy make it five stars. It's really an incredible location. Never seen anything like it. And the owners couldn't be nicer or more laid back. There's a second less rustic cabin on the property which we have also stayed at and is lovely. We plan to come back here every year. Thanks Harrington's!
