It’s 100% playtime at this Schoolhouse! Our Schoolhouse Cottage is on Upper Herring Lake, so cabin time around here includes a FREE pontoon boat and water trampoline. Plus, you are just minutes away from those amazing Lake Michigan beaches.
Our spacious Schoolhouse Cottage offers 4 floors of fun with plenty of room for up to 14 guests. The creative design and decoration resemble an old classic school house. But don’t be fooled, our rental is modern and comfortable. Inside you will notice the wood flooring, ceramic tile, custom-made woodwork, antique decor, custom furniture and third floor bell tower. This vacation rental was designed with families in min, with separate areas for adults and little ones alike. Our gameroom has a pool/ping pong table, PS2 w/games, and board games.
Located in a peaceful setting on 2.5 acres. Surrounded by rolling hills and 140’ of water frontage.
Sleeping arrangements: Bedroom 1 has a queen bed on the main floor. Bedroom 2 has a queen bed on the second floor. Bedroom 3 has twin bunks on the lower level. Bedroom 4 also has twin bunks on the lower level. The living room has 2 full futons and the family room has an additional full futon. Lastly, we have 2 portable cots and 1 pack-n-play.
Enjoy the sunsets from your private shoreline which includes a lakeside hammock and kayaks. Spiral stairs take you upstairs to the bell tower. There is a telescope and a small early 1900's book collection up in the bell tower!
We include a pontoon boat for free (Memorial week til Mid October), a $1000 value! We also provide 10 gallons of free premixed fuel for it. We’re not done - when you stay with us you also get a full dock with plenty of room for your boat (Mid-May til Nov 1st), row boat (April 1st til Nov 15th), 2 kayaks (May 1st til Nov 1st), a Floating Aqua-Play-Mat (Memorial Week thru Labor Day Week), and life jackets. We want our guests to explore Upper Herring Lake which is why we provide a variety of options for ‘water transportation and fun’. Keep your feet dry and enjoy the dock, fire pit, rope hammock and chaise lounge. For the kids, we have a swing set and sand box.

Inside is a lower level recreation room with separate viewing area for kids complete with PS2 and games. The Schoolhouse Cottage is open all year. This means you have the opportunity to learn about our region whenever you want!
The Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore is a must see! There are 72,000 acres of dune land and lakeshore. Lake Michigan beaches nearby include Green Point Beach, Elberta Beach, Frankfort Beach, Arcadia Beach and Crystal Lake. Seasonal activities include the fall color tours (Fallfest), hunting, fishing, downhill and cross country skiing, local wine tours (award winning wineries), shopping, and more. We offer great deals during Spring Break (ask about our April special)! Also enjoy nearby snowmobiling in Frankfort.
After a long day exploring the area, come back to The Schoolhouse and relax on the patio. At night, roast marshmallows around the fire pit. Just like in school, you will create memories with your friends & family that will last a lifetime.
