Michigan is a great state to experience fall color because depending on where you are at, you will see the leaves change at different times of the year. Up in the Upper Peninsula, it is not uncommon to see leaves beginning to change in September. However, along the coasts of Michigan, it is often late October before the full change. Fall color tours are abundant in the state along miles of coastline and dense forests.

Start in Greenbush, MI for a spectacular start to your fall color adventure. Start in this small town off of Lake Huron and enjoy lunch at the Greenbush Brewing Company. Drive the beautiful Highway 23, The Sunrise Side Coastal Highway is part of the Great Lakes Circle Tour and has many tourist spots to pull over and enjoy. Ever thought to Geocache while you’re on your fall adventure? This fall color tour is great because it is also part of the Wine and Hops trail. Enjoy many wineries and breweries but be sure to be safe while you’re driving. There are many restaurants to enjoy a great bite to eat. The circle from Greenbush to Au Gres takes approximately an hour with no stopping.

After you reach your destination in Au Gres, drive west to highway 65 and turn North to towards Highway 55. Once your reach highway 55, head west again and reach West Branch. Travel north up to Highway 75 and back over to St. Helen and then eventually leading you right into the River Road National Scenic Byway. This whole area is fantastic and has many cabins and nature preserves along with a preserved coast that highlights many Michigan places, memorials, and family fun events.
