It’s cabin time™ in Carp Lake
Book direct and save on these Carp Lake, MI cabins on Paradise Lake. Located on the tip-top of mainland Michigan, Carp Lake is a sleepy unincorporated township that runs most of Lake Paradise’s shoreline. Aptly named, Paradise lake is a place of beautiful sunsets, white beaches, and beautifully preserved forests.
During your weekend away at the cabin, there will be no shortage of places to explore or fish to catch. Anglers will find a wide variety of fish to snare, including largemouth bass, northern pike, pumpkinseed sunfish, rock bass, and smallmouth bass. For your boat and fishing needs, the Paradise Lake Marina has you covered. For those who love the water but have no interest in fish, take your pick of jet-skiing, swimming, paddle boarding, and most other water activities you can think of.
If you prefer trees over waves, get excited. Located on the south shore of the lake are four nature preserves as well as the Carp Lake Township park. Each of the preserves has trails to walk on. If you got 10-15 minutes north of the township, you will find the trailheads for the North Country Trail, or check out Wilderness State Park or the Headlands, an International Dark Sky Park (one of 9 in the world!) The Wilderness State Park has hiking trails but also a dog beach, snowshoe and snowmobile trails, hunting, and mountain bike paths.
The Headlands International Dark Park is 550 acres of untouched forests that are home to rare and endangered plant and animal species. There are no lights in the park (which is part of the “dark” designation) and is a place of both natural and cultural discovery. Take time to stroll the Discovery trail that leads to the Dark Sky Viewing Area. The trail has “Discovery Stations” that feature cultural docents or representational artwork related to the sky. There are always events happening and is the prime place to be during meteor showers or the Northern Lights.
While Carp Lake is unincorporated, it has your basics and there are scrumptious vittles to be found at Clyde’s Place. If you are looking for other things to explore within a town, check out the antique store in Levering or grab a few groceries to take back to the cottage. If you venture north, you will find yourself in Mackinaw City. Explore the historical sites of Fort Michilimackinac, Mackinaw Manor, Heritage Village, and the Old Mackinac Lighthouse. Book one of the boat tours or even take the ferry to Mackinac Island for the day. If you have a sweet tooth, grab some of their famous fudge. There are plenty of small local shops to peruse and museums to explore as well, such as the Icebreaker Maritime Museum. If you are looking for something a bit more exciting and adventurous, book a jet boat adventure or explore the tree canopy by zipline.
The pristine north woods of Michigan has the best of both worlds: pristine, untouched forests and shorelines as well as cute villages and cities to explore. Whether you visit during the colder winter months or in the beautiful summertime, there will be plenty to explore.
