It’s cabin time™ in Burt Lake
Burt Lake cabin rentals in Michigan offer spectacular picturesque sunsets. Burt Lake, MI, is both a town, and the 4th largest inland lake. Burt Lake cabins are nestled in between tiny townships and state parks, making them a great escape for a family weekend, or a whole week.
If your looking to feast on fresh week during your stay, you’ll be delighted to learn that Walleye and smallmouth bass are plentiful, and trout and muskies are an occasional catch! Troll the Indian rivers or launch out into the main lake itself. When you feel you’ve exhausted the Burt, load up the boat and head east to nearby Mullet lake and try your luck in the blue depths. Kayakers and canoers don’t have to be left behind. Both lakes welcome paddle watercraft.
Those who prefer forested trails over blue lakes will have plenty of options to explore, with various state parks and nature areas surrounding the Burt. Bicyclists, pedestrians and snowmobilers can find trailheads for various trails, such as the North central State Trail, which connects in Indian River and Topinabee and travels along Mullet Lake. If your feeling ambitious, you can travel the trail all the way to Mackinaw City. The North Western Trail also travels to Mackinaw city, but lies on the west side of Burt Lake and travels through Allanson and Petoskey. Don’t feel the need to venture to far though. The old growth forests of Chaboigoning Preserve are a peaceful way to pass the day, as well as the beach and forests found in the Burt Lake State Park.
Ready to explore the small towns away from your cabin on Burt Lake? Better start with some coffee, which you can find at Cuppa Life in Indian River. Grab breakfast there or at Paula’s and venture on to Big Bear Adventures. Big Bear is your hub for almost every activity you could want. Mini Golf holes and a challenging ropes course dot the land campus if you choose to stay dry, but the real adventure happens on the river. Navigate Michigan’s fastest river, the Sturgeon, by canoe, raft, kayak or tube. Here, winter doesn’t mean the fun stops. Guided winter raft trips are a special treat, or instead rent snowshoes or cross-country skis. The Great Lakes Eco-Adventure Center and Brasswind Landing also off watercraft rentals and offer guided trips down the Indian River, which is a bit slower paced then the fast-flowing Sturgeon. Bring some snacks back to your Burt Lake vacation rental too - Drost’s offers chocolate AND ice cream. What more could you ask for?
With plenty of water and woods surrounding your Michigan cottage, you’ll be able to find the perfect balance of relaxation and exploration. Isn’t that what your cabin vacation is all about?
