Sunset Lodge is composed of two charming beachfront cottages nestled between the cedar trees on the shores of Lake Michigan. The main cottage features two private bedrooms and a full bath, as well as a spacious living room, a modern kitchen and a study.
The living room is large and full of light, with vaulted ceilings and a full wall of windows. The room is furnished with colorful leather sofas, a wood-burning stove and a small television. The dining room also features large windows, with a large family-style table and seating for six. The kitchen is fully equipped with dinner ware, cookware, appliances and storage, with a clear work area and breakfast bar.
Guests will love the airy cottage style, with white-painted wooden walls, hardwood floors and eclectic décor. The second cottage, nicknamed “Moonlight,” is a small guest house closer to the water with a single bedroom and a half bath connected to the main house by a custom walkway.
Sleeping arrangements: The main house offers one private bedroom on the main floor furnished with a queen-sized bed and a second lofted sleeping area furnished with two twin-sized beds. The guest house has a second queen-sized bed.
Sunset Lodge has a bevy of relaxing outdoor spaces on the property, making great use of its prime location on the beach of Lake Michigan. The main house features a small, covered veranda near the front entrance, as well as an open sun deck to the back of the house. The sun deck is furnished with deck chairs, a picnic table and an outdoor grill.
The guest house has a smaller sheltered deck with two lounge chairs. Both cottages enjoy the use of a large, level lawn and are walking-distance to a sandy beach swimming area.
Sunset Lodge’s excellent beachfront location on Lake Michigan comes with a variety of unique vacation activities, including beachside bonfires, swimming in the shallows, walking the sandy coastline, foraging for limestone fossils and listening to the crash of the waves while watching the freighters go by.
Pt. LaBarbe Road is quiet and nice for walks and roller blading. Wild flowers grow along the side of the road in the summer. There is also a pleasant four-mile jogging route that starts near the main cottage. The town of St. Ignace is home to a scenic nine-hole golf course. Guests are welcome to use two sets of clubs that are stored on-property in the shed.
One of the area’s most popular tourist destinations is the Sand Dunes about seven miles from the Lodge on U.S. 2. There is parking, views from the dunes, a warm-water beach and picnic areas. One of our favorite trinket shops is a local boutique called Herbon Pottery, with locations in St. Ignace and on Mackinac Island.
We consider Mackinac Island to be a must-see for visitors to Lake Michigan. The island has a quaint old-fashioned feel, with no cars and trucks allowed. Take a ferry over for the day and enjoy a scenic bike ride or a tour in a horse-drawn carriage. There is a historic fortress, the statuesque Grand Hotel and many treat shops and souvenirs. For lunch we recommend Brian’s Barbecue on Main Street — and the best fudge can be found at Murdocks and Mays. Keep an eye on the city schedule for the mainland’s Mackinac City for weekly concerts on the green.

I can hardly wait to return each year. I’ve traveled around the world, but this remains a most special place.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your beautiful, well- appointed cottage. We lacked for nothing.
Amazing vacation! We cannot believe our luck in finding this sweet cottage. our children were in their element, playing in the water, finding fossils, building campfires, and giggling in the loft.
Beautiful accommodations and surroundings. The website does not do this place justice.
Many precious memories made this week. The lodge truly made this vacation outstanding-private and roomy and beautifully decorated. A week is never enough. I can’t wait to return.
I think we’re in heaven — what a view!
We were so lucky to stumble upon this on the internet. Who knew such a perfect little beach house could be found!

In the owner's family for decades, this property is available for summer rentals. The owner can't get to the UP as often as they like so they are happy to share this special place.
