Cottage #1 at the Whispering Winds Resort shares 105 feet of cleared shoreline on Lake Huron with seven other two-bedroom vacation homes. Cottage #1 sits nearest the road, offering easy access to off-street parking for one car. The cottages at Whispering Winds create a small, private community with a level, grassy central play area with a swing set and slides, outdoor picnic tables and a pavilion and tall trees for shade. All of the cottages are within easy walking distance to the sandy beach.
Cabin #1 is a compact, 2-bedroom, 1-bath home ideal for groups of two to four. This traditional Michigan lake home is simply decorated with comfortable sofas and arm chairs, a dining table and chairs for four and a kitchenette with a sink, fridge, stove top and coffee maker -- along with dishes and utensils. The rooms are wood paneled, and the beds are made cozy with linens provided. Each living space is equipped with a smart TV with a built-in Roku. Guests also have access to complimentary Wi-Fi.
Sleeping arrangements: Cottage #1 has two private bedrooms with a full-sized bed in each.
The wide stretch of fine, white sand and the clear, green-blue waters of Lake Huron are the star of the show at Whispering Winds Resort. This remote group of family-style cabins is ideal for a small group or for multi-family events such as weddings or reunions. Each cabin has its privacy, while children can play in an easy-to-monitor central space and families in separate cabins can easily socialize by eating meals outside in a makeshift picnic courtyard between the homes. Best of all, the beach is positioned just right to catch the most vibrant rays of the Michigan sunrise.
While Whispering Winds functions as a small community unto itself, it is also located near a number of small towns on the Lake Huron coast, all picturesque in their own way, with plenty of local restaurants and unique shops to tempt the beach bums in the group away from the lake shore. Lake Huron is a beautiful, clean body of water for swimming and tubing, and also offers a fruitful fishing experience during most seasons.
Anglers can expect to catch trout, perch or walleye to fry up for the evening meal. This region near Lake Huron is also home to a stretch of the AuSable River, which is fun to explore with kayaks or canoes — especially if you’re hoping to spot some wildlife during your trip. Active guests will find plenty to keep them busy with a network of trails that is open to hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and ATVs. There are also a number of scenic golf courses within a short distance. On calm days, visitors to Lake Huron may want to rent a boat (or bring their own) and try sailing or jet-skiing on the open water.
Other popular activities in the area include the weekly farmer’s market in East Tawas and various venues for berry picking and winery tours. While you’re here, don’t miss the untouched beauty of the Huron-Manistee National Forest, and be sure to get a good picture of the Tawas Point Lighthouse.
