Manor Wood is a 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom cottage with 250 feet of private frontage on Dyer Lake. This quiet vacation home is located at the end of a private, dead-end road, with access to the lakefront across the road from the cabin. The lawn is level and grassy with a covered porch to the lake-facing side, furnished with rocking chairs, while the property held down near the lake’s edge includes a boat dock and a fire pit with outdoor lounge chairs. Another deck to the back of the house offers outdoor dining space, a charcoal grill and a second fire pit.
The land inhabited by Manor Wood covers 60 acres with a small apple orchard and forested land. The home itself is a remodeled centennial farmhouse with white siding and green shutters, landscaped with seasonal flowers and partially shaded by tall trees.
Inside, the main level features a living room with a gas fireplace, a flat-screen TV and comfortable lounge furniture. The fully equipped modern kitchen includes a full-sized refrigerator, oven, stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster and the essentials for dining and cooking. A formal dining room encloses a long table with seating for eight. The three private bedrooms are located on the second floor and are carpeted, while the main space is surfaced in hardwood flooring. Bathrooms are finished in ceramic tile, two on the upper level and a half bath on the main floor. A large, finished basement serves as a secondary TV and recreation room with laundry facilities. An attached garage provides covered parking space and houses the complimentary row boat and kayaks.
Sleeping arrangements: Bedroom one at Manor Wood is furnished with a king-sized bed and a futon. Bedroom two has two full-sized beds, and bedroom three has a queen-sized bed. Linens are provided.
Manor Wood offers panoramic lake vistas and wide-open green spaces, with plenty of room for exploring or just lazing around and enjoying the peaceful setting. The area is popular for birdwatching, while the lake is a great spot for both fishing and swimming. The quiet location at the end of a dead-end street makes for a safe environment for families with very little traffic. The property abuts the South Long Lake Forest Natural Area with several wetland habitats and a system of two-track trails. The home is located just outside of Traverse City.
A half-mile down the road from this upscale Michigan cottage guests will find the Bass Lake public boat launch. There is also the Silver Lake launch and the Long Lake public beach within six miles of the house.
Traverse City and the Grand Traverse Bay are only a ten-minutes’ drive. In Traverse City, guests can enjoy a variety of shops and restaurants. We suggest taking dinner at Boone’s Long Lake Inn Steakhouse or stopping in for ice cream at Moomer’s. The scenic 18-hole Crown Golf Course is nearby. Biking is also a popular activity in the area, with a trail head to the South Long Lake Forest trail system not a mile from the front door.
Best of all, Manor Wood is located just 20 minutes from the famous Sleeping Bear Dunes. Plan to spend a day on the sands, and don’t forget to wear close-toed shoes — the dunes get very hot in the sun!
Things to remember: Guests will need to bring their own towels for both bathing and swimming.

A great home to stay in. My extended family and I stayed at Marian's old centennial farm house. There were four adults and two children, and we comfortably fit in this great home. Marian was very attentive to all communication and we had a great time taking the boat and kayaks out on the lake and exploring the beautiful Traverse City area. Highly recommended! Beautiful farmhouse, conveniently located. We liked that this house was close to Traverse City and to grocery/supply stores (Sam's Club, Meijer), but far away enough to feel secluded. There is some private lake front right across the street with a couple of small piers for fishing, and for launching the available row boat/kayaks.
The house itself is very well maintained and nicely decorated - with plenty of room for the 4 adults and 4 kids who stayed there (including another small family would've been fine as well). With all the space upstairs, we barely needed to utilize the basement, which is actually nicely done with an available projector and sound system setup for watching movies.
The owner, Marian, was absolutely wonderful in maintaining contact with us and showed great flexibility when sorting out the reservation details. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely keep this place in mind again for our next trip up to Traverse City. Michael K., June 2016
A relaxing vacation spot. Our family had a great time! The cottage was as it was described. The kids loved the kayaks and the basement area; the adults loved the wildlife (deer, turkeys, cedar waxwings) and the serenity. It was nice to know up front that we would not be on a swimming lake, and it was not a problem at all to find one when we wanted one. The cottage is in a great location for getting to a variety of places: Great Bear Sand Dunes, Moomer’s, grocery stores, the Silver Lake Recreation Area, fruit farms. It was just what we were looking for. Virginia F., June 2016
Top Notch Traverse City Rental! This was a wonderful rental for so-o many reasons. First, the owners, Marion and Tom, were truly great to deal with. Then the house itself was ideal for us. It was very clean and well equipped just as depicted. We had 4 adults and 2 small children, so the house provided us with plenty of room. The master bedroom was quite large and had its own en suite. The two other bedrooms were good size with plenty of closet space. The downstairs had a dining room right off the kitchen, a great pantry, a half bath, and a nice, comfy living room. The guys really loved the finished basement room where they could watch sports while the kids tuned into Nick Jr. in the living room. We also really loved the porch with the rockers. Sitting there every morning having coffee and looking at the lake was so peaceful and lovely. There was even a nice deck in back for outside dining along with a grill and a hammock. In the morning, deer came by to nibble the berries in the back yard--which was really spacious. The location was also great as it took us no time at all to get to Traverse City for dining and shopping. We were also so impressed with the new Y. What a facility for the family and so close by. Having rented several places through HomeAway in different locations, this was surely one of the best. We all would highly recommend it for anyone visiting Traverse City. Kathy V., July 2015

My husband Tom and I moved to Traverse City from Detroit in 1980 and purchased Manor Wood in 2007. We have since completed a total renovation of the historic property. We love the area with its natural beauty and have raised our own family here, where we now take pride in providing a clean and comfortable home to make our guests vacation experience the best it can possibly be. We also live just two miles up the road so we can be easily accessible to guests.
