Each cabin has a small plot of private outdoor space. The rich green grass that connects these adorable vacation homes creates a long outdoor mall perfect for running barefoot on a hot summer day.

Shared amenities are centrally located so that vacationers with young children are able to see the game courts and playground equipment from their own backyard. Whitetail Family Resort offers several boating docks to accommodate boat rentals. The resort also offers complimentary use of a limited number of rowboats. Pontoon and motor boat rentals are also available.

Things To Do

Whitetail Resort Cabins are all located a short walk from the edge of the Houghton Lake, where guests can take advantage of this gorgeous natural water feature by wading in the shallows, swimming, boating and fishing. Houghton Lake is the largest inland lake in the state, covering more than 22,000 surface acres in cam, clear water. The resorts convenient fish-cleaning station makes fishing from the docks an easy, stress-free activity. Dedicated anglers can expect to pull walleye, bass and northern pike from the depths of Houghton Lake. The shoreline is also an excellent place to sit and think, with the lapping of the waves against the sand, the clean country air, and a vast blue body of water that extends to the edge of sight, framed on either side by tall, forested bluffs.

The region surrounding Houghton Lake is an exciting place to explore, whether by boat, on foot, or by bike, snowmobile or RV. Whitetail Resort offers easy access to a series of year-round nature trails, as well as motorboat and pontoon rentals.

The town of Houghton Lake also has a number of interesting crannies to investigate, such as unique shops, local restaurants, golf courses and public hunting opportunities. Houghton Lake annual festivals draw tourists every year for one-of-a-kind contests and activities such as an ice slide, a polar plunge, a car show and turkey bowling at Tip Up Town USA. Or — on summer weekends — visitors can take a casual tour through restored logging-era homes and businesses at Houghton Lake’s Historic Village Days. Contact the resort for details about local events and attractions.

Things to Remember: Guests will need to bring their own towels. (non-housekeeping cabins)

Nicely manicured yard with lots of things to do on site. Our cabin was very 'homey' and comfortable, just as a lake cabin should feel! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook every meal for 9 people for our entire stay. The owners are nice and very accommodating. We had a great time and plan to come back year after year. Seriously, it's a really great place for both fun and relaxation! Book the trip. You'll be glad you did. Kendra Davis

About the Owner/Manager

My brother and I purchased Whitetail Family Resort in May 2017 from the Morris family, who owned the resort for 23 years prior to 2017. It has been wonderful adventure so far, living the Houghton-Lake experience and getting to know our vacationers. We both enjoy the outdoor activities available in, on and around Houghton Lake. We are enjoying learning about our guests and hearing their stories and experiences. Some of our guests have been repeat customers for nearly 40 years. We continue to strive to make each guest’s stay memorable and to keep them coming back year after year.
