The Herring Lake Retreat is a beautiful cottage that offers a peaceful setting in a secluded area. This rental has its own private beach on Lower Herring Lake. The living room has an “A” frame design that offers a beautiful view of the lake. This home also has hardwood floors and a fully functional kitchen for quick snacks or cooking full meals. This cozy cottage is the perfect Northern Michigan retreat.
Frankfort is along the edge of the Benzie County and on the coast of Lake Michigan. The location makes it the perfect vacation spot surrounded by water and wildlife. The town is also driving distance to other fun tourist towns such as Glen Arbor, Empire and Traverse City. With so much to do in the area, your vacation at the Herring Lake Retreat will be packed with fun and adventure.
Sleeping Arrangement: There are two bedrooms downstairs with queen beds and a full bathroom. Upstairs, the loft area has 3 twin beds and one full bed. Plus one 1/2 bathroom.
The Herring Lake Retreat is right on Lower Lake Herring with a private beach just a short walk from the cottage. The lake is about 450 acres and its deepest point is 60 feet. The lake is filled with Northern Pike, Crappies, Bluegill, Rainbow Trout, Walleye and Smallmouth Bass. The shallow depths also make it perfect for swimming on those hot summer days. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore begins just north of Frankfort!
Northern Michigan is filled with fun things to do at any time of year. Benzie County has miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and 57 inland lakes. The Betsie Valley trail is a 135 mile groomed trails, perfect for biking in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. Visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes for a great dune climb or just to relax along the beaches. In the winter, the plethora of snow draws people from all over to ski at the Crystal Mountain.
In addition to all of the outdoor adventure potential, Frankfort has several art galleries and museums. The Ellie Harold Art Studio and Gallery is a unique art venue where art lovers can come view and discuss Ellie Harold’s work. The Point Betsie Lighthouse is a fun stop on your northern Michigan vacation. The top of the lighthouse offers a beautiful view and the inside is a small museum to learn more about its historical significance.

We require a $375.00 refundable security deposit. This insures that the property is left in the same condition as when the tenant arrived. Going Up North Vacation Rentals has a 3-night minimum during the off-seasons. We will consider a partial week during the high season, but we don’t take reservations for partial weeks until the last week in June. If renter cancels and we are not able to fill that week, Going Up North Vacation Rentals keeps the ½ rental down payment.
