Are you tired of paying $200 and up for one room with two beds with a view of the parking lot in some 15-story beach hotel? Sharing the beach with 300 strangers? Listening to the band in the lounge or partiers in the hallway late at night? Eating at restaurants for every meal (adding way more to the cost of each day you're there)?
Perhaps you're ready for a change in how to "do" your vacation this year? Have you considered renting an entire 2-3 bedroom resort home on an inland Michigan lake with a private beach shared with no more than 3 other families? Having your own private deck (with picnic table and gas grill) facing the lake? Fishing from the dock less than 100 feet from your door? Preparing steaks on the grill instead of eating fast food on the run?
Welcome to our resort -- designed for maximum comfort, convenience, relaxation, and 300 feet of sandy beach FUN.
Enjoy a variety of unpowered watercraft (kayaks, paddlewheel boats and fishing boats), included in your stay. Bring your own watercraft and inflatables too. The Hideaway is a one-story, ranch-style home, and it is CLEAN, modern, and comfortable. Once you settle into your home-away-from-home, you won't want to leave.
Sleeping arrangement: 3 bedrooms with queen-sized beds, a bedroom with twin bunk beds, and another open area with two sets of twin bunk beds. Bring plenty of beach towels and beach blankets.
Location: Inside the City limits of Harrison, Michigan. Our unique location puts you close to the amenities of a small city: grocery stores, a meat market for homemade brats, restaurants, etc. But we're also centrally located in the state, making Snug Haven a wonderful respite location for visitors interested in day trips to see what northern Michigan has to offer: the Mackinac Bridge, Mackinac City and Mackinac Island; vineyards up and down the Traverse City area and Leelanau Peninsula; Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore; Ludington State Park; various lighthouses along Lake Michigan and Lake Huron; literally scores of public golf courses between here and The Bridge; the M-119 Tunnel of Trees; Old Mission Peninsula; Bavarian Frankenmuth; and much more. But most guests prefer to stay put, venturing out just to pick up groceries or spend the occasional rainy day bowling or playing arcade games with the youngsters (rainy days), catching a movie in nearby Clare, or checking out the many games of chance in Mt. Pleasant's Soaring Eagle Casino.
If you haven't considered renting a cottage before, consider some of the advantages. For one, everyone is under one roof, not separated into multiple hotel or motel rooms. Two, you can save considerable money by cooking in your own kitchen or on your deck over the costs of restaurant meals. Even fast food for four can add up to $20-30. Renting a cottage or vacation home is like being at home, but on a beach. You have privacy, security, and lots and lots of comfort.
The Hideaway cottage has its own 60-foot sandy, beach and dock. You also have access to our 70-foot floating dock, which is an excellent spot for fishing, sunning, or just plain sitting in a chair relaxing. Our swimming area is enclosed by this "C"-shaped dock, which creates a protected swim area for the kids parents always appreciate. Many young kayakers learned to handle the little boats within the confines of the C-dock. There is a deck off the kitchen of this cottage and another deck by the beach. Inside you'll find a galley-style kitchen, ample dining area with seating for 12, a spacious living room area with gas fireplace, plus a laundry room. Snug Haven is surrounded by little towns with unique shops, and dozens of lakes and several streams. "Twenty lakes in twenty minutes" is our motto.
Budd Lake is picturesque and teeming with a varieties of fish, including musky. The Hideaway is right on the beach and has its own private fire pit. You can also be social at the beach fire-pits that are lit every nice evening in the summer. Just make yourself at home while visiting our home.
Snug Haven can be your base-camp for a wide variety of area activities: Though the deck is the perfect place to prepare dinner, you might want to eat out. Mt. Pleasant's Mountain Town Station has steaks and chops served with a variety of home-brewed beers. Ask us about other unique eating experiences when you book your stay at the Hideaway. Visit an Amish farm or bakery in Clare; enjoy a Classic Car and Motorcycle cruise in downtown Harrison; watch the 4th of July Fireworks from our dock; visit the Clare County Fair; try tubing and canoeing in the Manistee River; play miniature golf; take advantage of many first-rate public golf courses; take the kids to try the go-karts; and maybe even try your hand at casino gambling at Soaring Eagle Casino. Whatever you decide to do to fill your day, a quiet, beautiful lake cottage will be waiting when you return "home."

After a disastrous start to our family vacation at another lake house further up north where we had to bring our own linens and towels and pay more for the rental, we were so happy to find Snug Haven. We were only in the initial rental for a whopping two hours before it became a nightmare. After making our beds while it rained really hard, we tried to leave for dinner and groceries when the rain slowed down. As we headed for the door we noticed water flooding into the kitchen, bathroom and master bedroom. When we called the owner we were told where the mop bucket was located. For the next half an hour we mopped up all the water. When the owner arrived he offered us a discount to stay but we had enough and didn't want to worry about anymore floods. We were so disappointed that we left for home that night, a long 3.5 hour ride back. In a panic to save the family vacation the next morning, we were referred to Snug Haven. From the second I called Donn at Snug Haven and looked at the photos on FB I could tell this is where we wanted to stay and booked it right away. This place turned out to be our blessing in disguise. We have been to a lot of lake house rentals, this was by far the nicest, cleanest, and most fun place we have rented. There is a big sandy beach (no weeds) with a sizeable swim area blocked off that is perfect for kids and it has a slide. The huge c-dock which is the border to the swim area was the best place to fish. There was an assortment of kayaks, paddleboats, and a couple row boats included for our use. We all enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Snug Haven.
Elizabeth Blair- 07/13/2014. We love Snug Haven! Great place for kids and adults alike!!

Bethany Parker- July 27 at 7:58am. Our family had an amazing week at Snug Haven! Thank you so much!

The owners opened Snug Haven in 1995. All of the original cabins have been replaced by new vacation cottages designed and built for Snug Haven. Donn and Nancy are retired academics, and Alice is retired from Dow Chemical. Donn is a semi-retired musician who can be persuaded now and then to bring a guitar down to the fire pit for some campfire sing-a-longs.
Sometimes more IS better. Like more cottages available in one location, especially if you’re planning to vacation with friends and family. Snug Haven Lakeside Resort is the perfect getaway whether you need one cottage or four. We’re located on beautiful all-sports Budd Lake in Harrison Michigan (swimming, boating, and fishing for everything from panfish to sport fish to walleye to muskies). All of our cottages share our 300-foot sandy beach, the 70-foot C-shaped floating dock that can be used for fishing and sunbathing while providing a protected swimming area for youngsters, the fire pits, and a variety of unpowered watercraft (kayaks, paddlewheel boats, and fishing boats). Every cottage has a gas grill and at least one picnic table; three have covered decks so you can grill in the rain (if, heaven forbid, it happens to rain while you’re here). And every cottage is fully equipped and ready to move in: beds are made, kitchen is modern and well-stocked with cookware and serving dishes, and the living areas are comfortable. Most of the furniture is Amish-built: rustic, sturdy, and beautiful at the same time. Two cottages have laundry facilities and three have gas fireplaces. On top of all that, we are pet-friendly.
Our cottages are CLEAN and neat and well-equipped. Each one is different so we can accommodate groups of different sizes and configurations. You'll also be amazed by the size of our sandy beach, the unpowered watercraft there for your use, the clean and clear water in the lake (surrounded by city sewer so no "dumping" of any kind), and the presence of hungry fish. Come see for yourself!
